Caernarfon Castle on the banks of the River Seiont
Another of King Edward I castles, Caernarfon Castle was built following a bitter medieval war between two Welsh Princes. The imposing King’s Gate and immense curtain walls were designed to withstand major attacks. It took 47 years to build this impressive structure at a cost of around £25,000 which, 700 years ago, was a staggering amount. Grouped with other castles built during King Edward’s reign as part of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are plenty of car parks close to the castle including a long stay car park at the waterfront, adjacent to the castle. There is a gift shop and museum on site and plenty of eateries around Caernarfon. Caernarfon is an approximate 1 and a half hours drive from The Beaches Hotel and Spa.
